Planning for the Future

Planning for the future is a crucial element of any successful business and sets the framework for its aspirations, direction and activity. Having a clear idea of where your business or organisation is heading enables the development of focused aims and objectives and the effective
use of skills and resources to support business success.

Rural Sector Solutions has significant experience of effectively supporting this process in the private, public and charitable sectors.

Case Study

Kent County Agricultural Society

Kent County Agricultural Society is a charity responsible for promoting Kent’s agricultural and rural sector. It manages and runs the 3-day Kent Show at Detling in July each year and provides a vital focal point for Kent’s rural sector.

During the summer of 2010 I worked with the Chairman and Directors of KCAS to support the development of the organisations future priorities, and to help recruit a new Executive Manager.

I facilitated a series of structured meetings to enable them to reflect on current priorities, and discuss and agree those appropriate for the future. This included taking the group through a number of managed conversations to enable individuals to share their views. The outcomes were drawn together into a robust set of agreed priorities to ensure the effective operation of the organisation in the future.

I was also involved in the recruitment and interview process for the new Executive Manager.

Outcomes included:

  • A clear focus on the future direction of the Society.
  • A more cohesive approach to the strategic management of the Society.
  • Greater clarity of the role of the Chairman and Directors.
  • Investment in the infrastructure of the showground to generate improved revenue streams.
  • Appointment of a new Executive Manager.

Stuart worked really effectively with the Society during an important period of change and helped us establish our strategic direction for the future. His unique overview of Kent’s rural sector and experience of managing change were invaluable.
